Upcoming Events

Seminar

"Hypernuclear Spectra within Mean Field and Beyond Mean Field Approach"
Dr. Peter Vesely, a specialist of hypernucleus.
Date and time: July 27, 14:00
Place: room 224 of the main research building
For detail, please see

iTHES seminar

"Advanced Mean Field Theory of Restricted Boltzmann Machine"
Haiping Huang and Taro Toyoizumi (RIKEN Brain Science Institute (BSI))
Date and time: August 3, 3pm-
Place: Main research building, 4th floor, room 433
Abstract:
Learning in restricted Boltzmann machine is typically hard due to the computation of gradients of log-likelihood function. To describe the network state statistics of the restricted Boltzmann machine, we develop an advanced mean field theory based on the Bethe approximation. Our theory provides an efficient message passing based method that evaluates not only the partition function (free energy) but also its gradients without requiring statistical sampling. The results are compared with those obtained by the computationally expensive sampling based method.

Person of the week

Hello. I'm Shibasaki Tamaki. I'm working as a secretary of Nagataki Astrophysical Big Ban Laboratory since May 13th. Although I was confused by anything new, I have gotten used to my job for Oota-san's help and other secretaries's help.
First of all, I want to say that I respect all of researchers and scientists, because all of you are brave challengers who are challenging the unknown.
I was surprised that a lot of researchers sometimes discuss intensely, but I understood it's very important to discuss each other for reaching a brilliant achievement.

I used to work as a computer programmer of mainframe for 8 years when I was young, and recently I wrote some article about economy, finance and investment in the website.
My hobbies are listening to classical music(Mozart, Ravel, Schumann, Rachmaninov etc.) and taking care of my sons and reading newspaper(The Nikkei; The Nihon Keizai Shimbun). Especially I am interested in world economy and politics, I am taking particular note of change of economy and social conditions in the future.

I'm in the room 246 on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with Oota-san. I'd like to do my best to help you. In your free time, please come to our room to talk or drink something. Thank you.
